Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We have been located in Ann Arbor since May 2007. The organization formed in 2005, and was first headquartered in Baltimore, MD.
What is your primary product or service?
We are an independent research and educational organization that advances the status of animals in public policy and develops the study of human-animal relationships. Our objectives are to promote new and stricter animal protection laws, stop the cycle of violence between animal cruelty and human abuse, and learn more about our complex relationships with animals.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
There are many animal advocacy organizations and many organizations that shelter animals. The Animals and Society Institute is different. We use the model of a think tank. We look at institutional change as the only way to significantly improve the lives of animals. We publish two academic journals; have developed AniCare, the only psychological treatment model specifically designed for animal abusers, both adults and children; and publish a series of policy papers providing credible, academic-style information on current issues of specialized interest that are researched and developed by expert authors.
