How long have you been in business?
It has been our pleasure to serve Ann Arbor and surrounding communities for over 30 years, designing and building homes and home improvements with lasting value, beauty, and superior quality.
What is your primary product or service?
We are a full service design-build firm, remodeling and building custom homes with integrity and distinction. Our goal since Jim Acheson began the business in 1973 has been to achieve the highest level of craftsmanship while working with you to make the design and project fit in with your family’s needs, and your budget.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
After studying for several years at the University of Michigan, in the school of Architecture & Design and the school of Natural Resources, Jim Acheson took some time off school to apprentice as a carpenter with a local builder, and to learn building construction from the inside out. While apprenticing, he studied construction technology at Washtenaw Community College. Acheson’s fine craftsmanship and keen eye for design was recognized early on, and so within a couple of years the builder with whom Jim had been working decided to retire, and to give over his clients and job leads to Jim Acheson, knowing they would be handled capably. Thus Mr. Acheson was able to begin business on his own in 1973.

Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
We are family owned, by Jim and Marilyn Acheson. We run the daily operations ourselves, with our own crew of very experienced carpenters and other laborers.
What are your hours of operation?
Office hours are 7:30 am to 5 pm. However, we are often available to meet or speak with you in evenings or weekends.
